In trying to keep this short, the author sounds choppy and patronising. Some tips may work in typical middle class American homes, but she glosses over exactly how to do things. One assumption is that people have the money do keep things nice, in good repair, and to purchase any items needed, such as storage bins. She also assumes the reader knows how to go about cleaning, and has no problem with motivation or changing habits. I appreciate her intention, but for me, it didn't deliver.
This book is simple, straight-forward, and to the point. It would be so easy for anyone to follow. I liked its some-what humorous tone and the fact that it is all just common sense.

I for one am anything but organized. I have read all kinds of organization books and websites. I did find some tips in the book that I am able to put in place. It is always nice to pick up a tip or two. The chapter on creating errand / chore charts was great!!

I was able to sit and read this in one sitting - which makes it all the better. I was able to apply my new inspiration and ideas gleaned from the book immediately. The book is set up to get in the habits in 12 months, so the idea is not to rush into it, so that you do in fact develop habits rather than a one time hit and forget! I found this very much like Flylady who I absolutely love and follow regularly.

If I had one complaint about the book, it is the lack of details. I for one am very detail-driven, and that would have helped me more. However, I guess that allows for more individuality so that the reader can apply it to their situation.

If you are looking for some inspiration to get organized - something that you can get information from quickly and easily, this one is for you. Oh, by the way, it is free to Prime members - so don't miss out.
The book is broken down into small manageable pieces. The materially is presented logically and clearly. None of the material in any "how to organize/declutter" book is really "new" or anything my mom didn't try to teach me. However, no one would buy a book to help themselves re-order & clear clutter if something in their own system hadn't stopped working.

Ms. Leigh's very practical advice is given in simple doable steps. My favorite is the 3-tier system for storage. It's totally logical and something I do naturally in my kitchen and bedroom, but something that has escaped me when setting up my home office. Taking this idea that I know works and moving it from room to room will immediately give my spring cleaning new focus.

I'm sure there are tips throughout the book that others will find useful and easily adaptable to there homes. I gave it 5 stars because I read it quickly and have 2 things I will start doing today!
I had high hopes for this book when I saw the title. I had assumed that it would have a solid working timeline with plenty of new, useful and practical ideas for getting things around the home sorted out and organized. Unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations.

The first chapter is entitled "Your 12 Month Home Organizing Guide" which echoes the title of the book. It does mention a month-to-month schedule for attacking the problem, but not much more than that. Only a short paragraph or two is assigned to each room or area of the house and doesn't go into much more than the always cited "three piles" method of sorting, labeling objects, or buying additional storage items.

There simply isn't anything new and what is there is very simplistic. Do you really need to schedule an entire month just to declutter and organize the master bathroom, assuming your house has one? And if following the author's advice your fourth month of decluttering will be to assess what you've done so far and the eighth month will be to used to relax. Sure, if you say so.

Other chapters cover subject such as getting your family and children organized, clutter killers, organization tools, and so on. Most of the author's systems seem to be centered on sticky notes, corkboards, and poster-sized calendars.

Her storage solutions depend for the most part on special purpose or dual purpose furniture with storage areas such as ottomans or coffee tables, plastic bins, under bed storage boxes, and hanging storage options. Additional storage suggestions are held captive in the author's other book which she recommends you buy.

The author has included links to her website for the downloading of her cleaning checklists.

There are other more original and comprehensive books available on the subjects of decluttering and household organization. Not recommended.
Do you want to feel less stress? Do you want your family to help you with chores and things around the house? Colette Leigh believes you can really make a difference in your life by organizing and cleaning your home. In this book she finally shares her secrets to having a peaceful and organized life.

Her advice about breaking bad habits is great for people who tend to lose things like their keys! She also has a lot of ideas I've never read in other organization books. If you have young children however you would not want to leave cleaners in every room and would want to put them high up out of reach. Her ideas about teaching children to be responsible for their chores is great and she encourages parents to make a game out of organizing tasks.

There are some decorating tips and ideas for how to optimize spaces. Her idea about putting a TV in the laundry room is interesting, I would not have thought of that. It might keep you in there long enough to fold the laundry!

So a good book filled with helpful advice you can put into practice immediately if not sooner.
