It's been quite awhile since I've read a book of poetry. I used to write it, and even had some published, and somewhere along the way I grew tired of reading and writing it. So, it was with a bit of trepidation that I began looking through this book. I'm not sure why exactly. Maybe I thought it would be boring, or bring up some weird writers block phantom feeling from my past life. Whatever the the initial hesitation was, it was quickly let go of when I began reading Living out Loud.Nina takes the reader through a very honest, sometimes raw emotional roller coaster. Her perspectives are real and her observations keen, regarding human behavior and the feelings that accompany those behaviors. She easily draws you into her world, and at the same time your world is right there with her. These are more like mini stories than poems. Stories almost everyone can relate to in some way, and that are gripping to read.
I would re-read this book, and I rarely do that. The questions she proposes within the pages ask us all to evaluate ourselves and our own thoughts, feelings and actions if we so dare.
I'd recommend taking the dare. It was worth it to me.

Living Out Loud Outspoken Poems Poetry Trilogy Book 1 edition by Nina Bingham Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
i have never been a huge fan of going so far as to buying a book of JUST poetry but this book is really something to read. it shows an extremely personal side of poetry and is able to rekindle hope inside of you. it is easy to see that this author is a talented one, so i suggest this book and i am looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.
It is unfortunate but all to often Nina's symbols are buried in a cascade of language that constantly flirts back and forth between prose and poetry and so gets to be neither.
It is very refreshing to sit down and read a collection of poems and essays that are relevant to day-to-day living. Nina's voice does an amazing job of capturing life's snapshots, and distilling it down to its very center.
I loved this collection. Nina does such a wonderful job of calling out your inner thoughts and putting them in eloquent prose. Its thought-provoking, subtle and sometimes anthem-like. I found myself wanting to read several of them over again so I could have her words rest in silence for me to ponder. Definately something I'd recommend as a reminder of the journey we are all on and how ultimately we triumph.
Wonderful thought-provoking read from beginning to end. Colorful verbiage and interesting theme's that will keep you thinking for long after you have finished the book.
I appreciate the candor that the writer incorporates into both her writings and her poems. Crossfire of Emotion was my favorite. I will definitely go back and re-read the collection.
Alot of poetry can be either difficult to understand or to get into because of the writing style, or the fact that the content has no relevance to the reader--and that is where this collection of poetry and essays really shines and seperates itself from alot of the current small batch publications out there.
The author writes about content that people deal with every day--self doubt, unrequited or hurtful love, feeling joy or sorrow, etc. She writes about these things in an accessable way without coming across cliched. The overall impression I got from much of this writing is that the author has been where we have been, and is writing about honestly and from the heart in a sensitive way with a light touch. Many of the poems are actually short essays which give the reader small impressions of paragraphs of her life that might resemble yours at times. I highly recommend this collection and look forward to her other works.
